Installing Glue Down Vinyl Plank Flooring Over Plywood

In most cases 4 by 8 foot sheets of particle board or plywood must be installed in preparation for the vinyl floor install. If the plywood is porous prep the subfloor by applying a primer that fills the pores and makes the floor ready to accept the adhesive. When you get to a wall you will have to cut the plank with the knife to make it fit. Press it down firmly into the glue.

Take another plank and press it up tightly against the first. Concrete subfloors must be at least six weeks old dry and free of powder and flaking. A glue down floor is usually a better choice in high traffic areas like commercial buildings and industrial spaces because the glue provides extra holding power. Because you can install sheet vinyl over existing vinyl it offers the option of changing design without breaking the bank.

Vinyl flooring is usually not installed directly over the subfloor in residential applications. We recommend using safety goggles and work gloves during installation. If the subflooring is in good shape nail it down without the plywood assuming the engineered wood is of good quality and 1 2 in. Installing vinyl plank flooring ca be done over most surfaces as long as those surfaces are smooth.

Around the house the rooms with the most traffic such as the front hallway the kitchen and the recreation room are better served by glue down flooring than floating flooring but if you re considering a whole house. Take the planks out of the boxes and place one of them into the adhesive. If the board subfloor is in poor condition use plywood as a clean flat surface to glue down 1 2 in thick engineered flooring. Hard set is designed for sheet vinyl but also works well with vinyl tile and plank.
